Touch controller fully functions with menu options on idrive. You replace controller for touch and use y-splitter cable to link the language module, there is room to fit this near controller (in factory it is fitted near door pillar). Once screws removed the whole centre fascia with touch controller can be lifted up. Two screws hidden in bottom of storage compartment under arm rest (be careful as these love to disappear forever. Two screws hidden on passenger side of centre console trim, you will have to push passenger seat back as far as possible to see/access screws. Remove screws, 2 hidden at bottom of radio fascia (in front of cup holders) they are hard to see, you have to almost lie in footwell and look up. So from memory to access touch controller. update JAN 2021 - sadly newtis was removed under threat from BMW. I use online version but can also be downloaded from bimmerfest site (never pay for it). Instructions to find the 6 hidden screws to remove trim and get access to the controller can be found in BMW ISTA.
